Hello. I know that this may be off topic but I figured it is the best way to reach out to people. If you are over the age of 62 or if someone you care about is over the age of 62, Please send them to the link in my signature as it will truly help them understand the mortgages reverse process. I am a former loan officer. I have been in the mortgage business for 15 years. My blog is not intended to sell someone on the reverse mortgage. It is inside information about how the reverse mortgage works, and how much they cost. Again, I am sorry that this is off topic, but I fellt that the content was inportant enough to post here. This will prevent you or your loved ones from getting ripped off on a reverse mortgage. Moderators: Please do not delete this post as it is important.

I think the most important question to ask about Polanco offensively is this: how much does he improve the Phils' lineup? That's a question about how to construct a lineup, and, unfortunately, the stats readily available to us simply look at individual performance and do not tell us enough about how combinations of players, including entire lineups, perform together.

Because the Phils have so much pop at second, short and other positions, it's not necessary that their third baseman hit with power. Because the Phils' lineup is filled with guys who hit homers and strike out a lot, it's good to have a guy like Polanco who hits for average and does not strike out. My only criticism of Polanco offensively is the lack of walks.

Setting aside defense for the current discussion, I think Polanco complements the rest of the Phils' lineup better than a player like Beltre, even though Beltre hits with more power.

One of the deficiencies of readily available stats is that, when we try to evaluate teams or lineups, we simply combine individual stats in linear fashion because we currently lack tools to measure the synergistic effect of various player combinations.

This conversation will give us all a grand laugh in about 7 or 8 months when Polanco wins the Silver Slugger for third. Yeah, I typed that with a straight face.

I agree that increasing age plus the bad year in 2009 is a bad sign for Polanco. I think the combination probably winds up being bigger than whatever advantage he gets hitting at Citizens Bank Park.

Plus moving from second to third means you need to make more offense.

He does have fantastic numbers hitting at CBP, though, in a lot of at-bats. So I dunno, but I'm guessing not good if I have to guess.
