I'm pretty stumped about what the Phillies should do with Howard. He's just awful. His .533 OPS so far for May is by far the worst month of his career -- worse than his .786 from April '07. Next worse is .660 in 28 at-bats in May, 2005.

I agree that Lidge has been unbelievable.

I think four days in a row is too much for anyone. But I hope that Romero is right and it doesn't burn the Phils. I agree the Phils are going to need someone else in the pen and, like you suggest, it doesn't seem unreasonable to think he could come from the minors. Gillick has also been really good about adding players during the seson.

Despite the great numbers for Seanez it seems like Manuel either doesn't have much confidence in him or he is often unavailable to pitch.

Romero says the more he pitches the better he is- right...but I agree. This does get me worried too. And as of late, Madsen, Seanez, Chad & Gordon have been throwing well no? Condrey the odd man out? Be nice if a young arm came in to help out mid season and was light outs to spell some of our arms. But on the bright side...how happy should we be with Lidge, i just keep knocking wood any time I even think that.

I would be thrilled to see a Howard bomb tonight. I'd settle for a hit, though.

I agree about weird to be in the first, actually percentage points behind the Fish, raising questions about when we need to start to take the Marlins seriously. I think the answer may be 2010. I still fear the Braves, but a little less so than the Mets.

I'm not so worried about Howard -- seems like he has to pull out of it and he's looked awful for long stretches in the past. The Phillies are playing great overall given the loss of Rollins. Biggest worry for me is an injury to Romero, Lidge, Myers or Hamels. I think you have to be at least a little concerned about how all four of them have been used so far. Too many pitches for Hamels and Myers and too many days in a row for Romero and Lidge.

That walk to Randy was painful...

Feliz getting gunned out...perfect bounce of ball and throw...would love to see that inning is he is safe at 2nd.

If we split this series I call that a win for us considering head to SF then day off.

It feels really weird to be in first place...would be nice to stay in this groove and keep adding to it. Atlanta is bound to start winning in bunches soon.

Given how badly he's been playing I think that just about anything, including an injury, is possible. I do think it could just be a long slump. Last year he was just miserable in April and hit just .225 in limited at-bats in May (although he slugged .700). It would be a huge problem for the Phils if he's hurt, but I think there's a good chance he snaps out of it.

In 2007 he hit 38 home runs after the end of May.
