Philliesflow maintains a log of starts by Phillies' pitchers for the following seasons:
For all of the logs, each line represents a game played by the Phillies and a start made by their starting pitcher. Here is how to interpret the columns in the log:
Date: The date the game was played
Color: The unlabeled column to the right of the Date column contains a color. Each color represents a Phillies' pitcher to allow you to easily find all of the starts by a particular pitcher.
Opp: The team the Phillies played against
Start: The name of the pitcher that started
the game for the Phillies
Result: The result of the game. For
example, "W5-3" means the Phillies won five to three, "L9-1" means the Phillies
lost nine to one.
IP: The number of innings pitched by the
Phillies' starting pitcher
H: The number of hits allowed by the
Phillies' starting pitcher
R: The number of runs allowed by the
Phillies' starting pitcher
ER: The number of earned runs allowed by
the Phillies' starting pitcher
BB: The number of walks allowed by the
Phillies' starting pitcher
K: The number of strikeouts recorded by the
Phillies' starting pitcher
Record: The Phillies' record after the game
Outs: The number of outs recorded by the Phillies' starting pitcher. For example, if the pitcher went five innings they got 15 outs, if they went 5 1/3 innings they got 16 outs. Outs is needed to calculate Game Score.
UR: The number of unearned runs charged to the Phillies' pitcher. This is also needed to calculate Game Score.
Qual Start: Indicates whether or not the start by the Phillies' pitcher was a Quality Start or not. If it was, the column will be green. If not, the column will be red. A Quality Start is start in which the starting pitcher goes at least six innings and allows three or fewer runs.
Game Score: The Game Score for the
Phillies' starting pitcher. A Game Score evaluates the effectiveness of a
starting pitcher. You can read about how to calculate Game Score
here. You
can find Game Scores for games at many other sites, including ESPN.com and
Baseball-Reference.com
Opp GS: The Game Score for the starting pitcher facing the Phillies
(appears first in the 2007 Start Log).
Better: Compares the
Game Score of the Phillies' starting pitcher to the Game Score of the other
team's starting pitcher. If the Game Score of the Phillies' starting pitcher is
higher, this column equals one. If the scores are the same or the score of the
Phillies' pitcher is lower, the column equals zero. (This column appears first
in the 2007 Start Log).
Win: If the Phillies won the game, this column equals one. If they lost
it equals zero.
Loss: If the Phillies lost the game, this column equals one. If they won it equals zero.
QS: If the Phillies
starting pitcher made a quality start in the game, this column equals one. If
they did not, the column equals zero.
After the QS column there is a band of blue that includes these items:
Team Record by SP: The Phillies' record in games started by a particular
pitcher. For example, if a line reads, "Smith, 2-4, .333" it means that the
Phillies went 2-4 in the six games that Smith started for a .333 win
percentage. It is unrelated to whether the pitcher was credited with a win or a
loss and only reflects what the team did in games that pitcher started.
Quality Starts: For each starting pitcher, reports the number of Starts
that pitcher has gotten, how many of those starts were Quality Starts and the
percentage of Starts that were Quality Starts.
Team Record in Quality Starts: Reports the team won-loss records in
games where the Phillies' starting pitcher made a Quality Start and games where they didn't
SP ERA in QS and Non_QS: Reports the overall ERA for Phillies' starting
pitchers as a group, their ERA in starts where they made a Quality Start and
their ERA in Starts where they did not.
Game Score: For each pitcher, shows the number of starts made, the Total
Game Score of all those starts and the average Game Score per Start.
GmSc compared to GmSc of opp SP: For each Phillies' pitcher shows how many starts they have made in which they posted
a higher Game Score than the starting pitcher for the team they were facing, how many starts they have made in which they posted a Game Score that was lower
than or the same as the starting pitcher for the team they were facing and the
percentage of starts they have made in which their Game Score was higher than
the Game Score of their opponent (first
appears in the 2007 Start Log).
IP per start: For each Phillies' pitcher shows how many starts they
have made, how many innings they have pitched in those starts and the average
number of innings pitched per start.
Team Record by Game Score of SP: The Phillies' record based on the Game
Score of the Phillies' starting pitcher.
Team Record by Runs Allowed by SP: The Phillies' record based on the
number of runs allowed by the Phillies' starting pitcher.
Team Record by IP by SP: The Phillies record based on the number of
innings pitched by the Phillies' starting pitcher.
