I have close to no idea what to expect from Halladay's early starts this year, whenever they are. He was fantastic on Opening Day last year against the Pirates, allowing two hits over eight shutout innings.

It's hard to imagine he could go real deep into starts early in the year at this point. He threw to a 1.95 ERA in his first five starts last year after an ugly spring training, though.

Phillies still saying that Doc will be ready for his regular turn when the season begins. I guess tomorrow's minor league start will tell us if they are serious or not. Sort of hard to imagine he can be ready given how short his outings have been. Need to see at least five innings tomorrow, don't we?

RAJ ought to thank you for your generosity about 2012. But I guess everyone needs a fluke forgiveness for one year.

I think this is a big year for RAJ. I'm willing to write off 2012 as a fluke coming off of excellent seasons. But last year was bad. I sure hope the Phillies are a lot better this year, but I'm not at all sure they will be.

Two of the biggest problems with the Phillies right now are the Halladay contract and the Howard contract. Most people thought that Halladay contact was great when signed and many thought the Howard contract was going to be a problem. Amaro owns them both now.

The Phillies also had Halladay pitch 250 2/3 innings in 2010 when the won the division by six games. That's a lot of innings and Halladay is looking like a guy who has thrown a lot of innings these days.

Nope. It doesn't. A lot of things aren't like they should be as far as the quality of starting players essential to the success of this team. This is the team built by RAJ.

I fear Kendrick may be over his head trying to fill the role of fourth starter. Especially given that Roy Halladay is at the top of the rotation and not pitching well. Kendrick was outstanding in the rotation at the end of last year, but I still think he would be best used as a long man out of the bullpen. That doesn't look like it's going to be an option this year.

I don't suppose it would have taken a genius to anticipate Dom Brown as crucial to the 2013 season, not with Amaro's refusal to obtain front line corner outfielders the past two winters.

But who would have guessed that Kendrick might be pretty nearly as important? Because who ever would have feared Halliday's possible diminishing to an average, very average pitcher.

Kyle did ok. I don't want to bet the farm on him. But it was good to see home pitch the way he did.
