I agree there weren’t a lot of choices. I do think it was a good move. The Phils look likely to lead the universe in guys looking to demo that their career isn’t over. That should count for something, shouldn’t it? Hello?

Given the choices, I don’t think Delmon Young was a bad pickup. I hope he ends up being a whole lot better than not bad though.

It’s going to surprise me a lot if we see Young in right field regularly in 2013. Let’s hope Amaro is just trying to push Brown.

I agree that the Braves getting Justin Upton would be a disaster.

Oh lordy. If Pence is better than Young, it may be best not to watch, because last year Pence was as bad as anyone I can remember.

I am seeing Amaro saying he got Young for right field. But who knows. Looks like mix and match this year. Especially if, as you seem to indicate, they platoon even Young.

Atlanta apparently chasing Justin Upton for LF next to his brother. If they get him, add the Uptons to Heyward and the Phillies start looking a little silly.

I will be a little surprised if we see much of Young in right field for the Phillies in 2013. If we do, I will be stunned if he turns out to be a better defensive right fielder than Pence. I think Pence is better defensively by a lot.

Yeah, I think the defense up the middle is rather solid. Hopefully they will update the rules to make it a violation to bunt on either side of the mound before the start of 2013. Maybe if we’re lucky they’ll outlaw balls hit to the corners as well.

The good news is that Young is better in RF than Pence.

The bad news is that 1st, 3rd, LF, RF are, um, shaky. I think we’re about to test the maxim that you have to be strong up the middle. Phew. We are that.
