Not a good defensive player, but he did hit .285 this year with 43 home runs. That’s something. Don’t think it’s going to matter, though, cause I don’t think there’s any way the Phillies could afford to pay him and likely won’t even consider him.

Oh interesting. You would. I don’t know what to think on the matter. I know he was bold in Texas this year. And I know he’s going for the biggest money possible. I just wonder if his substance issues are under control. And isn’t he oldish?

With or without Cabrera, Michael Bourn, BJ Upton, Delmon Young, Angel Pagan are the first guys that come to mind. Not sure any of them would qualify as a huge piece, though. That might take a trade.

Josh Hamilton would count as a huge piece. But I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Nick Swisher? Dare I say Shane Victorino?

I am pretty sure the Mets would take almost anything and give a lot to rid themselves of Bay. Its just that he has been so bad for so long that he might better be left as a millstone around the Mets’ neck. Between the Braves and the Nats we have about all the teams to jump over we need.

If we take on Cabrera, What huge piece ought we be looking at?

Ok. So, $16M for Valle, and they throw Bay in for free. If his spring looks as bad as his last 3 years, you cut him and lose basically nothing. I’m not convinced Valle ever makes it to the Phils anyway; he’s not the most favored catcher prospect anymore.
