Kind of hoping for two studs. This lineup is so streaky that the more bats we have maybe the better chance we have. That’s my official working theory.

I think it would depend which one bat it was. I think it’s possible one plus a role-player could work if they add pitching.

Frandsen is hammering lefties. I think he’s going to get significant chances next year to play third against left-handed pitching, assuming the Phils don’t sign a stud 3B.

Kratz is fading. I wonder if the Phillies are worried about counting on him even as a backup for ’13.

I watched Cloyd pitch tonight. He is not Cy Young either, apparently. He was awful.

I watched a game where we fielded three everyday major league players. Chooch sat this one out. That’s four. Total. On the whole team.

We just may need more than one bat next year. In fact, if we get only one, we will sit out the post season next year too, I’ll wager.

I think the Phillies are in a whole ton of trouble if Halladay isn’t very good. This season was certainly cause for enormous concern — started off with him not pitching well in Spring Training and everybody saying there wasn’t a problem. There was. Let’s hope there’s not next year.

I think he will pitch well on Saturday.

The bigger question for me is if Doc is one starting pitcher or zero. Getting worried about him. If Doc is able to bounce back and Worley fixes whatever was physically wrong with him, I’m actually fine with the starting pitching depth (well, in that I think the hitters are a higher priority).

I think the question for the Phillies is whether they think the combination of Worley, Kendrick and Cloyd equals one starting pitcher or two.

I think it equals one. At least only one that you should be counted on next year. I think they think it equals two.

It will be interesting to see where starting pitching ranks on the Phillies’s list of priorities for 2013 in the off-season. I think the answer is near the bottom.

They need a hitter that plays a corner outfield position or third base for sure. If they added pitching instead, I think that would be a mistake. Hopefully they have a couple of additions in mind before the start of 2013.
