Howard’s dive for the foul last night was terrifying. The park went DEAD silent as he lay prone on the ground.

I don’t think e has never been the same since the heat stroke event last year. I really wish they’d get him looked at, not for the Phillies’ sake but for his and his family’s. It a little scary to me.

I agree about Howard. I think you have to play him cause you have about five hitters on the team who should be starting in the majors and he’s one of them.

I agree that Halladay looked weird. No idea what’s going on, but it’s not the first time that you would think something’s wrong just by looking at his face while he stands on the mound. I would guess that someday someone will tell us what’s going on. For now, his results are rather non-Halladaylike.

Yup. Howard looks awful at the plate. But if everyone looked that bad and drove in the same number of runs it’d be ok with me.

Speaking of looking bad. I was at that game on Tuesday. Doc looks awful, physically. I’m serious; if he were a relative of mine I’d be all over him to see a doctor. It was quite cool in the park with no humidity. Yet he struggled physically, sweating hard, using the talc on hands, arms, etc.

On the other hand his fast ball was at 92-91 and his cutter was at 90. He barely used his fastball. Curve, change, cutter almost exclusively.

I’m with you there. Guessing the chances of that unless the Phillies are mathematically eliminated or Howard is injured are pretty low, though. I think a start in left against a lefty is more likely, unless the Phillies conclude he just can’t play the outfield defensively.

Also, Howard is playing terribly but still driving in runs. 40 RBI in 230 plate appearances would be about 113 over 650 PA. Even while hitting .182 over his last 82 PA, he has driven in 16 RBI. That would be about 127 over 650 PA. He has one less RBI for the year in his 230 plate appearances than Mayberry does in his 405.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Ruf play first against a lefty though. Howard just looks horrible right now.

Yep. They’re making it a little tough not to get your hopes up, no matter how unlikely a Wild Card is.

Pretty sure we’re not going to see Ruf in the starting lineup today against the righty Johnson the day after Pierre goes 3-for-4. It’s not like the Phillies have a whole ton of righties on the bench, though, just Wigginton and Frandsen. So maybe we get to see him pinch-hit at least. Guessing he won’t get a start anytime soon against a righty.
