Kratz has been great. Huge home run today. But chances are really, really good this is the best year of his career. I would be happy to see him as Ruiz’s backup next season.

I think Brown gets 500 at-bats next year if he’s healthy and plays regularly at one of the OF corners. Mayberry is going to get close to that if the Phillies don’t get some real OF help soon. He’s had a lot of chances and I think it’s pretty clear Mayberry shouldn’t be playing regularly against righties.

I think it’s very unlikely that we’re going to see Utley at third for more than a game or two, if ever.

I think the Phils think Freddy Galvis is going to start for them somewhere in 2013. That’s a problem, cause he was terrible for them this year and I’m not at all convinced he’s ever going to hit.

I really don’t know who is going to be in the OF for the Phillies next year. Brown seems like the best bet to be one of the three starters, but he’s been pretty bad in his recent slump. I think it would be a disaster to go into 2013 with Mayberry as your starting CF. Not sure they have a better choice right now, but they need to get one.

Mayberry I have to agree. Good to have on your team, not good to have as an every day player. If Mayberry & Schierholtz are our 5th & 6th outfielders we’re in good shape. That would leave 1-3 as Brown and two players to be named later. Bourne? Ruf? Gillies? Hamilton? The success of the 2013 outfield should tell us everything we need to know about RAJ.

Offense is still looking a little less than fabulous, but the Phillies are playing great overall. Still don’t have much of a clue what the Phils are going to do with Kratz, Frandsen, Schierholtz or Mayberry going into next year. I think it’s bad news for the team overall if the Phils feel like Mayberry and Frandsen have earned regular playing time. I think those guys need to be role players on a good team.
