Agreed that Kendrick needs out of the rotation. Long man outta the pen is good. Hard to imagine what we’d do without this guy though.

I’m curious why we haven’t seen some of the kiddies from the minors starting. Are they trying not to start their major league service clocks before next year?

I would be thrilled with 33-22 the rest of the way. I’d guess that they don’t fare that well. Hope I’m wrong, but I think they finish well under .500 for the year.

Still not sold on the pen at all. Kendrick needs out of the rotation. The offense has a ton of holes.

There are so many high draft picks in the MLB draft that never work out. I think it would be a mistake for the Phillies to count on it as a way to build at this point. They’re too old. They need to build around their core and their core is going to be done by the time the guys they draft in 2013 arrive.

I’m thinking if they go 32-22 the rest of the way, that should be considered an accomplishment. I’d almost rather see them really crap out the rest of the way and get the better draft pick. I know the baseball draft works differently and all, but if you’re picking earlier you have more talent available to you.

If only they have thought of it sooner. 4-2 since the trade. The sad part (okay, sadder) is that winning twice as many games as they lose the rest of the way probably isn’t enough for the Phils. If they go 36-18 in their remaining 54 they finish 85-77. I’m thinking chances are good they don’t even of 36-18 in the rest of their games.

He’s been pretty good lately. Getting Johnson on the double-play after the leadoff single was huge yesterday. Six scoreless outings in a row for Papelbon. Over those outings he’s thrown to a 0.00 ERA with a 1.00 ratio and struck out eight in six innings.

Not sure it makes sense for the Phillies to invest that much money in a closer if they’re going to be ten games under .500, but his numbers for the year are pretty similar to his numbers over his career. He’s allowed a few more hits. Righties .241 for the year vs .218 for his career.

Still, if we’re picking between a closer and a 3B or OF, I think the Phils have a more dire need at 3B or OF.

Papelbon again looks bad in a tie game. Gets away with it this time.

Real glad to see Howard come through after the IBB on Utley. Hopefully gives him some confidence/mojo/whatever it is he’s missing.
