Good call on the lineup. You nailed it. I really think using Martinez is a poor idea. How bout calling back someone we don’t know enough about yet and giving the roster spot to him? I guess it can’t be Pridie cause that would be yet another lefty, but there’s got to be someone. I do think being able to be the emergency guy at SS and CF is something, but it’s not enough.

Also think that the injury to Polanco hurts the Phils against lefties. He can’t do much these days, but should be able to deliver a bunch of singles against lefties. I wish the Phils could get a look at someone at third who might help them in 2013 more than Frandsen.

Awww. You should assure the Utley fan that the combination of Utley’s contract and the fact that he has difficulty moving around means it’s a lock he will be with the team for the forseeable future.

Just had to share this story:

So this morning, I had to break the news to my daughters (4 and 6) that the ‘Flyin’ Hawaiian’ and Pence had been traded. The oldest nearly came to tears about Pence, since he played minor league ball with our local team (even though she wasn’t born at the time). The youngest says, “did they trade Chooch?” I explained that Chooch was still on the team.

The oldest thinks about it for a while and then calms down and asks, “Did they trade Chase?” After I said no, she said, “good, because if they trade Chase, I’m going to root for whatever team he’s traded to.”

I about died laughing at that point.

Another thought on Martinez is that they need him to back up SS. Not that it makes a whole lot of sense create a hole at backup SS that you fill with Michael Martinez, but whatever. Minor advantage for Martinez over Fontenot is that he can backup CF and SS with one roster spot, even if he can’t hit.

I don’t really think the Phillies can be thinking of Frandsen as potentially part of their future. Can they?

Makes close to zero sense to me that the Phillies would consider Frandsen possibly part of their future but not Fontenot.

Not that it all has to make sense. I’m just saying.
