These games are fun to watch. Glad to see Brown make a great throw and not be terrible in left. Caught Espinosa’s ball in the ninth at the wall.

Great start for Schierholtz. Not sure there’s a huge mystery about why he’s not an everyday player when he’s hitting like .140 against lefties for the year.

Will be interesting to see how the Phils do tonight against their first lefty. I think they’re going to have a bunch of problems against lefties now, given that Mayberry is their only right-handed OF.

I think they’re hoping Schierholtz will be a “find” and take over everyday. Kinda like Vic or Werth.

At first I was upset by seeing Michael Martinez called up, then I saw Jim’s post about CF and just became ill. Charlie will have him starting in CF tonight, I can almost guarantee it. Probably bat him 2nd too. Horrible.

In other news, Frank Gailey has been released as the team continues to purge any memory of Benny Fresh.

I think you may be right about Martinez and CF. Hadn’t thought of that.

I still think there are two awful decisions here, though: 1) Not using Fontenot who is a solid UT guy, even though he was awful defensively during this short stint with the Phils. 2) thinking there’s a place for Martinez on the team, even with the huge hole in CF. He really shouldn’t be given a roster spot.

What occurred to me is Martinez has been known to play CF on occasion. So I sort of understand bringing him up right now, even though he belongs on a MLB team as much as you or I do.

I don’t understand why Fontenot (who at least had a hope of being a decent utility guy) would be the choice to jettison, rather than, say, Wigginton (who only has hopes of striking out and making errors).
