Galvis is the cause of and not the solution to the Phillies problems. Not the only one, but he’s not so hard to replace. I agree it’s bad news on Herndon. I don’t think he was anything super special, but the Phils can use as many guys out there with a chance to help as they can get.

Buried in yesterday’s injury report was Tommy John for Herndon. So much for my theory that he gets 10 saves this year.

From what I read, Galvis was going to be out at least those 50 games with his back anyway. So outside of the headline, no net change.

Not sure there is a lot of time left. To get to 85 wins, I think they have to go something like 18 games over .500. And the odds of that are…..?

I agree on Ruiz. I think he will get to go, but probably won’t be voted in. I think he deserves more votes than Posey. I’d give him an edge in earned it over Molina, but it’s close.

Probably isn’t helping his cause that his team is so unwatchably awful.

If I had to guess, I’d say that Chooch just doesn’t have the name recognition and won’t be voted the starter. He’ll still go. That’s probably it for position players. Paps and maybe Hamels for the pitchers.

Still a lot of time if they’re going to turn things around, but it’s looking a little bleak at the current time. Worley is the only guy on the team who has started a game this month and also thrown to an ERA under 4.57 in June.

Hamels, Lee, Blanton and Kendrick have combined to throw to a 6.13 ERA in 79 1/3 innings in June.

Hamels and Lee have combined to throw to a 5.72 ERA in their six June starts. It’s reasonable to expect more from that duo.

I think the good news is actually pretty limited. The real good news is things can’t get any worse so they gotta get better. Overall, though, walks and strikeouts a little better and hits way, way worse isn’t a good tradeoff. As evidenced by the transformation into one of the worst teams in the league at preventing runs.
