I agree the defense has been frustrating from Pence. He is hitting .281 and leading the team in home runs, RBI, walks and total bases, though, so I think I’d try to get him on the field.

I’m definitely with Bill and all for a win tonight. The Rockies have been just about as bad as the Phillies recently, 1-11 over their last 12. Should make for some super baseball.

I am trying to see Hunter Pence as good, to be honest. His fielding is easily as bad as Dom Brown’s. I don’t know the stats, but it seems to me he has been dreadful when runs were there to be driven across the plate. His plate discipline is horrific; he is a bad ball hitter only because that is just about the only thing he swings at. At $9 million, one would think that he could hit in the 4 hole and not force Charlie to start Hector Luna there because poor Hunter just doesn’t have the skill – or the guts – to do it.

I know he has been an all star from the Astros. But isn’t it a rule they had to send SOMEone?

I am really sick and tired of his destructive role in games. Doubly so at his price.

Tonights starter for the Rockies is rocking (i kill myself) a 8+ ERA and Hamels is pitching for the Phils. Can the Phils just pound this guy and get a win? Winning makes everything so much easier.

I do. Going 3-12 makes it kind of easy to forget, but this team has an enormous amount of talent. Last year they went 102-60. Who did they have then that they don’t have now (granted a bunch of important guys are hurt)? Ibanez? Oswalt? Their production can be replaced.

I think this team is over when a) the Phillies trade off their core or their good players (Victorino, Pence, Hamels) b) they get back Utley, Howard and Halladay and still can’t win or c) we learn the more than one of those three guys isn’t going to play again. Until one of the last two happens, I don’t think you’re going to see the first one.

I don’t know, but I don’t think this is about re-stocking. I think this is a team built to win now that’s not winning now. They were great last year. If they’re going to tear it down and start over, they have a long way to get back to where they are now. I’m pretty sure Manuel won’t be hanging around for it.

I still think Victorino and Hamels will be around after the deadline at this point.

Again, I don’t think they’re about to tear it down and start over. Even if they decide to throw in the towel for this year, I think it’s more likely they do not much and hope everyone is healthy so they can try again next year. Basically I don’t think it’s likely they don’t know they’re not good enough at this point. I think the mostly likely scenarios are they think they’re not good and won’t do much but wait till next year or they think they can still do something this year when they get people back with maybe a few moves. I’m going to be surprised they decide to blow up the team.

The third option is that Amaro knew this going into the year. How ones wastes $40 million in Halladay and Lee is beyond me.

And if Pence is still on this team, all is lost. I want him gone.

I’m guessing it is the third option in that the team realizes it can’t win this year and is already thinking about next year and what they can do over the next month and a half to re-stock for 2013.

I will be absolutely shocked if Victorino is still on this team come August 1. I’ll be slightly shocked to see Hamels still around as well.

Charlie’s on record as stating his team’s not good enough. RAJ isn’t. One would presume these two communicate directly at times.

That was a brutal series. Bad defense, bad pitching and the offense scored seven runs in three DH games. Just about the only bright spot that I noticed is that Mayberry went 4-for-9 with a pair of home runs.

It’s definitely getting not so good. It’s sure starting to look like the people who run the Phillies either don’t know this team isn’t good enough to win or aren’t willing to invest what it would take to make them better. Hopefully there’s a third possibility I just haven’t thought of yet.
