DM, I wouldn't expect that at all. He'll be 32 next season. He wants Pujols money/years.

Bill, that crossed my mind, and I immediately pushed it away. No reason to watch the standings right now. We know the rest of the division won't just roll over for us. We just need to take care of our own business, and the standings will take care of themselves. We still have plenty of games against the guys above us later in the year.

Man, Nats win again today. Maybe thats the biggest issue, the other teams in the division arent exactly losing. If everyone in the division sucked, so be it, but that isnt exactly true right now. The Phils are 12 back in losses and 10 games back. there maybe 100 or so left but thats 10% that needs to go just perfect. Problem is that percentage goes up as we trudge along. Phils need to pick it up and soon.

Maybe the Nats will keep to their Strasburg inning limit and put Harper on one too while they are at it. that should help.

I mentioned a month or so ago that it occurs to me that the Phillies are going to be negotiating a new TV contract. That means a team that looks a lot better than what we are seeing today.

My fantasy? That it isn't Mayberry in center in left. Instead, some guy down Texas way who is gonna be a free agent at the end of the year.

I know. Silly. But a guy can dream, can't he?

I think the biggest thing there is about the starters. If they don't pitch better a lot better, not a lot else matters.

I wouldn't trade Victorino or Wigginton. I think the problem with Wigginton is that he's a guy who should only be used against lefties and the Phils have had to use him against righties way too often. That's cause they don't have an appropriate amount of hitters on their team who can hit righties. I would trade Thome, but the Phils are going to need him for the next five DH games (side note: it will be interesting to see what they do tomorrow night with lefty Scott Diamond on the mound for Minnesota). I'd still play Pierre against righties and Mayberry against lefties, but I think both slots seem pretty upgradable. I think Brown needs to hit better at AAA before he comes up. Hopefully that will happen and soon.

I'm running out of things to say at this point. I can barely even bring myself to read about the games on a daily basis.

I really want about 6-8 faces to change.

Wiggy goes 0-for-whatever yet again, and avoids getting an error solely due to lack of balls hit in his general direction. Don't understand his role on the team. Trade him, or cut him.

Thome's hot. A handful of games left where we need a DH. He can't play the field. He was 0-for as a pinch hitter. Trade him while we can get some modicum of value for him.

Vic is unimpressive lately, and not likely to be re-upped for 2012. Trade him.

Try Pence in left, where he can do less damage.

Give Brown his final shot, before we decide if we need to trade him too. Maybe in right.

You gotta keep Pierre on the field. He's not embarrassing himself on defense, and his offense has been good.

Mayberry, on the other hand. Well I guess someone needs to play center if you trade Vic. Hope for the late-season surge.

And none of this means a darn if the starters aren't throwing anywhere near their potential.

I'm feeling kinda downtrodden at this point. As I commented on the last post, you really want to win when you score seven runs. Last year the Phils were 40-0 when they scored more than six runs. This year they're 12-2 (also lost the 15-13 game with the Braves).

Rollins and Thome hitting is definitely good, though.

Like you say, the pitching is what's terrifying. By ERA, the Phils starting pitchers are eighth-best in the NL at this point. That's for a team that's based on starting pitching and has little chance of winning without it.

Kinda wishing they hadn't let Dave Bush go to Korea. Not that I think he could be the savior, but because the Phillies need help in their rotation right now. I really think Kendrick pitching out of the rotation hurts the pen, too, cause it means someone else has to go in long relief. See Joe Savery from last night.
