Thrilled to see Galvis come through with a pair of big hits in the last two days. But no, he really can’t be your starting second baseman on a win-now team. His offense numbers are going to be pretty miserable. Again, I think the real answer to the question whether or not Utley is coming back matters a whole lot here. If he’s coming back, maybe the Phils can get by a while on no offense from 2B. If he’s not, or not coming back for a long time, they need help. It’s not Galvis’s fault for sure. It’s the Phillies fault for putting him in a role for which he is ill-suited.

Let’s assume, just for a moment, that Utley’s career is over. Does Galvis look like a second baseman on a win-now team? The fact that he pretty much didn’t play 2nd at any level except MLB doesn’t seem to be affecting his D. I’m not thrilled with his home/road splits though. Will be interesting to see how many more 2-run doubles he has in that bat.
