I'm totally with Bill on Herndon doesn't need to pitch to McCutchen with a big open in game three, too. Cause it's the Pirates and that's their good hitter.

Also agree with everyone the defense has to be a lot better.

Bill, you're right, especially about the D. I think that's the first time I've actually witnessed someone reach base on a strikeout.

Seriously, I wasn't the only one wondering why Herndon was groving a fastball to McCutchen and an empty first base with two outs was I?

Also, if this team is gonna have a hard time scoring runs (and that looks to be the case), their defense has to be much better than what it is right now.

These guys are grasping for how to play the game together. Charlie has no idea how these guys make a whole. Or if they do. How do they fit? Who does what and when? The patterns of the past several years are lost for the present, and are (perhaps) gone. We may see a lot of things we cannot explain as they feel their way to some kind of new norm. So far we are seeing a lot of really odd things. The only thing so far that bears any resemblance to the past are the four starters.

About now RAJ may wish he had done some different things this off season, but what is important is to really figure out what he needs to do now. It is too early for that; hopefully what we have seen is not what we are going to get. But he has to get his next move right. Exactly right. Doesn't look like room for much error exists. But maybe they will figure it out from inside. Time will tell.

Has not been fun.

I agree about bunting with Nix. That's nutty. Let's bunt with the guys who can't do anything but single anyway, not the guys who can hit the ball far. Too much of Rollins, Nix and Victorino bunting in the first three games.

Other than the Nix bunt, there wasn't anything I hated about the ninth inning of game two other than the result. Did kinda hurt when Pence stole second right after Nix couldn't bunt. The Thome strikeout hurt a lot, but it was the right guy to have up there.

This spam is getting crazy. Maybe moderate anyone who fills in the website field?

Anyway. Hated the 9th. Felt like it was mismanaged. Leave Nix in,
but bunt? It's obvious he doesn't know how. And then hit Thome for Mayberry? I think there's at least 5 other people in that lineup I'd rather see Thome hit for, regardless of hand. Yech.

Tomorrow, but, yeah, that works for me. Looks like they get righty Anibal Sanchez against Hamels on Monday at home.

I'm still holding out hope that Thome starts both of them with a day off in-between.

That doesn't seem so likely, though.
