I think it’s unlikely that they will be in the top half of the NL in runs scored until they add a hitter, either by trade or through someone getting healthy.

Given the circumstances, better to have him than not have him. But the circumstances are pretty bad. He should be able to help the team at depth at backup UT infielder, but that’s not really the help they need.

He isn’t going to rescue the team, but another body that can play in the middle infield can’t hurt. Of course, anybody that has been released by the Nationals should raise some flags.
