If Nix can hit righty’s like that this year…yea he will get plenty of time too, time will tell.

16 homers for Nix in 320 plate appearances against righties last year. That’s something at least. I like Pods, too, but more if he keeps on hitting .360 with power than if he hits like Scott Podsednik.

I’m kind of liking Pods. I agree that Pierre is about done. Nix is well named; I know he will go north and play, but for the life of me there has to be someone better, somewhere. Like in single A?

Well I bet Pods has a better year than Nix and by the end of the season is getting more playing time too.

I really don’t think Pierre is a good player anymore.

I think you have to make an exception as long as he’s hitting 362/423/532, but in the long term I think it’s clear that Podsednik will not produce enough offensively to be league average in left. Mayberry might not, either, especially against righties, but he definitely seems to have the better chance.

I agree he’s been terrible during Spring Training. I do think we’ll see a lot of Mayberry at first early in the year, which means a lot of someone else in left.

Nix is the lefty that’s going to play left field most often. If there’s any platoon out there, I think it’s Mayberry/Nix with Wigginton at first against lefties. Nix doesn’t get on base much, but against righties I think he’s a whole lot better than Pods cause of the power.

Ahh…I see the numbers game now as well…Phillies have until April 1 with Pierre, until June with Pods and Montanez, so that helps Pierre a little bit so you can take a risk on him.

but I would say…just START the year with Pods at this point!!

I think you have to take Pods.
Sure I think Pierre is a good player and could probably help this team, but Pods may have a bit more left in the tank. We will see

And let me ask this…why not START him in left?

Has Mayberry really won that job that handily?

I think you have to ride the hot hand as long as you can…especially THIS year…it may come down to a few games at the end of the season…can you platoon Pods and Mayberry righty/lefty to start the year and go from there?

I agree they’re going to go with Pierre.

I think it’s pretty hard to make an argument they should keep Pierre over Podsednik. Podsednik vs Montanez is harder for me. I think they would take Podsednik over Montanez if it came to that. I don’t have high hopes for Montanez, but I do think Podsednik has gotten a huge number of at-bats and demonstrated he doesn’t make enough offense to be a corner OF for the Phils in 2012. On the other hand, he sure is hot. I think I would take Podsednik while he’s hot. I think the Phils will take Pierre first or Pods second.

Who do you pick between Pierre, Podesnik, and Montenes?

Something tells me the choice doesn’t actually matter all that much. They’re probably likely to go with Pierre to give them more options to try and see what sticks. Pierre’s had the worst spring of the 3, but it’s been fine in a vacuum.
