I agree it was a big strikeout of Furcal (switch-hitter hitting righty) before they pulled Bastardo. Furcal had ugly numbers against lefties for the year, 235/276/358, though and the righty behind him, Craig, didn’t. Craig hit 313/343/647 against lefties for the season.

I agree about putting starters in in the middle of the inning. I didn’t mind it as much as you did, though.

If I recall.. Bastardo had just gotten a good strikeout on a righty. Seemed odd to lift him there.

I also don’t like putting starters in the game in the middle of an innning with somebody on base. Didn’t hurt them, but I hated the move.

That was a strange strike zone. Pretty surprised to see LaRussa complain about it during the middle of the game and the announcer to agree with him.

Utley called out on that 3-2 pitch in the fifth was really weird.

I still don’t trust Bastardo, especially when he walks the guy to start the inning. I didn’t mind Worley against a righty there.

Is it too much to ask for our aces to go out there and put up 8 or 9 0′s? Really?

A few observations from last night, as well -
- Whether a pitch was called Ball or Strike seemed to have little to do with where it crossed the plate.
- I don’t recall ever seeing so many balls hit hard to right field and stay in the park.
- Not the way I would use Worley. Let Bastardo finish that innning, he’s looking good. Use Worley if the game’s going to extras.

I was getting kind of nervous around the fifth inning or so. Halladay was fantastic after the home run in the first.

Glad to see the Phils beat up on the St Louis pen in game one. It seems like there’s no way Boggs can pitch tonight. The Phils looked good against Rzep and St Louis didn’t like they were in a big hurry to bring their other lefty Rhodes into the game.

And it’s real nice to have Cliff Lee to pitch game two.

Nice that the offense came to play, to pick up Roy’s single mistake.

Also nice that we were able to give Stutes some Fall Training time. Hope he learned something from it. Didn’t look like it though.

Utley’s double essential. Howard’s dinger the turning point. Ibanez’ dinger was a statement.

Doc’s first inning was the continuation of a seriously dangerous trend. He has to stop this crap. Putting one’s team in a hole of this size this early will cost this team – or any team for that matter. This is no small issue for a team which can find it hard to score three runs. First inning holes cannot continue if these guys are to win the Series. This is not an aberration for Halliday. It becoming normative and is something that must stop.
