I had the same reaction to walking Berkman intentionally. Seems odd to me. Worked out great for the Phils, though, with Halladay striking Craig out on three pitches behind the intentional walk. Still would rather just try to get Berkman out, especially in the fifth freaking inning. I guess the first-inning homer by Berkman scared the Phils. Still, it's Roy Halladay.

Wow. i just saw something I never ever thought I would see. 5th ining. Man on second, two outs, Berkman up. And Charlie has DOC... INTENTIONALLY WALK... the guy. Not to set up a double play. But just because Charlie thought it was not safe to have Doc pitch to the guy.

I kind of hope that Doc understands that his manager thinks that it is too risky to have him pitch to Berkman. Doc is supposed to be the best pitcher in baseball. Berkman is far from the best hitter. Charlie does not trust his pitcher to get him out.

Interesting.

Yep, I'm worried about the disappearing offense, too. I think I'm more worried about Hamels than you. Last year when the offense disappeared in the playoffs, at least there was a good reason for it with the Giants pitching the way they did. The other thing that's high on my list is that lefties in the pen. Even if Bastardo were completely fine, I think think one lefty in the pen could cause some problems in the post-season.

Two concerns here. Stop me if you've heard this before. One, an offense that disappears. Completely. Two, Bastardo. I'm not ready to add three (Hamels relapse into dinger giver) as long as Hamels next start is better.

I agree that there doesn't seem like a whole lot to worry about right now. Would be glad to see Howard's foot get better. And Bastardo get someone out. And Hamels not allowing so many home runs. But overall things seem like the problems could be worse.

I still think we should be worried about one lefty (at most) in the bullpen.

Polanco on-basing .389 this month appeals to me a lot. .377 over his last 110 plate appearances. 333/433/431 over his last 60.

Glad also to see Victorino's HR in game two of the series. He's still hitting .183 over his last 106 plate appearances and has gone 4-for-his-last-23.

They could field the entire Lakewood BlueClaws right now and clinch home field. I'm not particularly worried about any results right now, I just want people to get healthy. Happy they're pulling Howard for a cortisone shot.

I also have no doubt that Pence will get the juices going in the clubhouse when it's time.

Magic number of 1 to clinch the best record in the National League. They don't look particularly inspired right now. I really hope they can just turn that switch back on in a week and a half.
