He’s hitting 314/327/706 over his last 52 plate appearances with eight doubles and four home runs. He’s only walked once in those 52 plate appearances, but if you’re going to slug .706 you don’t need to walk. The problem is that he’s not going to slug .706 forever, so he should figure out how to work a walk in now and then. His dad was great at walking for what it’s worth, on-basing over .400 twice in seasons where he got more than 600 plate appearances. Mayberry Sr led the AL in on-base percentage in 1973 (.417) and was second in 1975 (.416). Third in ’72 with a .394 on-base percentage.
