Sure...I'd trade him for Longoria. Heck, I'd drive him to the airport. But who else do you imagine getting at 3B?

The other side of this is that the Phillies are up against the luxery tax limit that they have set for themselves. They added more/better prospects to the Pence deal in order to get money back so that they don't have to pay a luxery tax. This does not sound like a team that wants to trade a cheap outfielder away.

Brown's defense should be less of an issue with the fact that Center and Right Fields are now closed. He's likely to be the best defensive Left Fielder the Phils have had since .. Jenkins?

I'm sure his offense will come around. But I also agree he's now moveable if need be. I wouldn't dump him as a failed project, but we can get by on 2 functional starting outfielders next year if we have to and we're getting something great back (like, say, a future 3rd baseman).

Don't forget 11 pitchers on the team, too. Should be interesting. If it makes you feel any better, they do have seven infielders (assuming you count Gload as an infielder). It shouldn't. Maybe tonight's the night we get to see Valdez put his career 0.00 ERA on the line.

I'm disappointed in Brown's year so far. I don't think Mayberry is very likely to have success as a regular player. I still think Brown is. I wouldn't trade him. Mayberry is also a) way older and b) old. Mayberry turns 28 in December while Brown turns 24 in September. Brown had also hit 296/398/366 in July before being sent down.

On events that should be troubling, hoping for a blowout tonight as Madson and Bastardo have pitched three days in a row, Stutes threw a ton of pitches, and Kendrick is starting. Not a recipe for success.

Before you go off any more on how lousy Brown is, I just want to give you a subtle player comparison:

Player A - First two years in MLB -
439 PA's, 103 H, 49 R, 21 2B, 3 3B, 15 HR, 78 RBI, .257/.313/.436
Player B - First two years in MLB -
279 PA's, 58 H, 36 R, 13 2B, 1 3B, 7 HR, 32 RBI, .237/.315/.384

Player A put up his numbers in the offensively charged 2003/04 seasons as a 24/25 year old and went on to be the best second baseman the Phillies have ever had (Chase Utley in case you can't figure it out).

Player B put up his numbers in the more normal offensive era of 2010/11 as a 22/23 year old and is Domonic Brown. Yes, his defense needs work. His offense will be fantastic and most folks know it.
