Martinez is not the answer for the Phils. It’s true he is hitting .276 over his last eight game with nine RBI. But don’t forget the .257 on-base percentage for the year (or his career .315 on-base percentage in the minors). He did have a great game yesterday, but he was 1-for-10 in the series with the Mets.

Just wanted to check in and say yes, I saw more than 4 Mets per inning yesterday at CitiField. Yetch.

To me it looked like Cole lost his composure after the 1st inning infield fly fiasco.

Yeah, I am afraid that I had written Lidge off. IF he ocmes back, and I doubt very much that he will, my biggest concern is that he not mess up the bullpen we have had.

I share the concern that we keep having to use spare parts in key positions. It’s just one guy after another. Here’s hoping Victorino can hold a bat wihtout discomfort. I wonder how long till he gets his eye back.

2008 Lidge would be too much to ask for I’m afraid. I’d be pretty happy with 2010 Lidge at this point, but I don’t think we’re getting that, either.

Glad to see that Madson was activated. I’m more enthusiastic about getting Victorino back than Polanco. I’ll be interested to see how much time they give Martinez at third with Polanco out. I think the answer might be a lot, which doesn’t bode real well. On the other hand, it wasn’t like Valdez was real likely to tear things up either.

To anybody that didn’t see, Lidge pitched in Reading last night and boy was it ugly. He did get two outs, but sandwiched in a single, walk, two hit batsmen, and three wild pitches (and a partridge in a pear tree). I wasn’t hoping for 2008 Lidge, but I was at least hoping he’d be helpful this year. I’m not feeling particularly good about that right now.

Polanco to DL, Madsen activated.

Yeah. He hasn’t really had the year I was hoping for so far. Hopefully he takes a lot of time off in the second half and can help the team out down the stretch.
