Yeah, I agree. I am kind of assuming the playoffs, and that we want to go way, WAY deep into them. That right handed corner outfielder you keep talking about would certainly help.

BTW, your right handed hitter would hopefully be a large part of the answer to a question I heard asked today that I had not even thought of, to wit, Who is the Phillies' DH in the World Series if the Series were held tomorrow? Right now, there is no real good answer.

I think if Hamels, Halladay and Lee stay healthy and the offense doesn't collapse completely, the Phils should make the playoffs. That's not the only goal, of course, and I hope the Phils add some players in the second half. I still think they need a right-handed corner outfielder. I think a guy in the pen would help too -- I think they got a little fortunate with some of the bullpen production in the first half.

You continue to astonish me with your statistical work. I have to say that I would not even have thought to do the work on "Pitching Well" or not. Jiminy.

The long and the short of it is, if we pitch well, we win. If not, then we lose, and to some significant degree because we are offensively incapable of overcoming a pitching performance that allows over 4 runs in a game. I guess that is not something that would surprise anyone who has watched this team play. Amaro somehow divined that offensively we were not strong enough to win without extraordinary pitching. And then he went ahead and assembled this amazing staff so he could win anyhow.

So, assuming reasonable health in the starters, if the offense can get it in gear, the second half ought to be a lock. Yes?
