Amaro must be going crazy. And Charlie must be going nuts. I think we make the post season. The thing I am concerned about is whether the starter’s spirits get broken by the constant pressure to be perfect. Chances of Oswalt or Hamels wanting to be here beyond the end of their present contracts?

I totally agree that’s it a bad, bad sign if anyone is thinking about whether Halladay is a good hitter or not. He’s not, but it shouldn’t matter at all if the hitters would hit.

Phils are 13th in the NL in runs scored in May. There are only 16 teams in the league.

BTW, the guys who got the hits yesterday pretty much were the scrubs. Not the so called “stars”.

Is there any more telling measure of this team than the fact that in a fan blog its guru makes the following comment about the starting pitcher, who just happens to be the best pitcher in baseball: “Halladay isn’t a good hitter, but he’s been especially bad this year.”

Is that observation, true or not, even on the radar screen if it were not for the pathetic mediocrity of the players whose job it actually is to hit? Face it fellows, after three years of decline, this IS a mediocre team that just happens to have the best top to bottom rotation in the game.

Definition of mediocrity: In 2009, there may have been one every day player whom I would easily have traded away for a better player. Now, I would keep only FOUR: Chooch, Howard, Polly, and Victorino. And the truth of that is that none of those four are the best player in the league at their position any longer.

As Chipper Jones says, “We are as good as they are. In a short series, I like my guys over theirs.”
