Anyone think that saying that one of the so-called four "Aces" is a "lock" for ten wins reflects badly on the so-called "Ace"? Given his gifts, Hamels ought to know how sad his performance is in the eyes of the very knowledgeable fns of this city.

Joe did good tonight, though.

I think you're right that Hamels should be a lock for at least 10 wins this year. I think we might even expect more -- 14 or 15 wouldn't surprise me that much. Hopefully he'll get nice work from a well-rested bullpen that won't have a whole lot to do in the games started by Halladay, Lee and Oswalt in front of him.

There's also the bizarre thing about how the Phillies never score runs when Hamels starts, too. So far in 2011 they've scored seven runs in his three starts -- so they're scoring 2.33 runs in the games that Hamels starts and 6.27 runs per game in the games that he doesn't. In 2010 they scored 3.76 runs per game when Hamels started and 5.02 runs per game when he didn't.

Hamels played well on Sunday. He had good command of his fastball for the first few innings. I wish he would have gotten the W though. He will get his 10 for the year I'm certain of that. Its good to see his fastball is on point. Reminds me of the days I watched him in the minors with the Lakewood BlueClaws. Go Phills!

The results so far for the Phils are pretty great. 10-4 is tough to argue with. I think we should be worried about the way they've been winning lately, though.

Still, if they win when they get good pitching they're going to win a lot. The Oswalt game on Friday against the Fish is still the only game on the year the Phils have lost when their starter allowed less than five runs. The losses are the Oswalt game plus three terrible starts (Blanton/Lee/Hamels).

Glad to see them use Blanton today, too. Especially with such a strong start to the year and a rested pen. The big four are going to pitch enough innings if they stay healthy this season as it is.

I agree with the decision to not skip Blanton as well, especially with not knowing how Oswalt's back will hold up. Besides, at some point he has to pitch well enough to get some sort of trade value.

The trend of losing the first game of the series continues, with the notable exception of game 1 against the Astros when they needed eleventy billion straight singles in the 9th to win the game.
