The Phillies will use the next nine games to decide whether Luis Castillo will start the year with the team or be released. In the article linked above, Amaro says, “He’s not going to the minor leagues.”
This says that Castillo hasn’t arrive in camp yet, that he won’t play today and isn’t in tomorrow’s lineup, either.
Halladay was fantastic yesterday as the Phils topped the Red Sox 4-1. He allowed a run on five hits and three walks over 7 2/3 innings, dropping his spring ERA to 0.48. In 18 2/3 innings, he’s allowed one run on 12 hits and six walks.
Madson finished the game for the Phils, allowing a single in 1 1/3 scoreless innings. He has allowed two runs on six hits and two walks over 8 1/3 innings (2.16 ERA and an 0.96 ratio).
The Phils didn’t have an extra-base hit in the game. Barfield was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Martinez 0-for-3 with an RBI. Orr and Delwyn Young were both 0-for-1.
Victorino and Ibanez collided in the outfield in the fifth inning, with Victorino getting the worst of it. He says he’s okay.
Mark Teixeira is mad at Ben Francisco after Francisco tried to knock the ball out of his glove in Sunday’s game.
Jose Contreras is the latest injured Phillie. He will be sidelined for “a few days” with a corneal abrasion.
Update: Castillo arrived in camp around 1:30 this afternoon and is expected to play tomorrow.

Seems like Luis might be more interested in just going home, playing MLB 2011: The Show, and collecting his unemployment from the Mets. He might not have any other choice at any rate.
It’s a 6 hour drive from Miami to Tampa. It’s taking him 3 days to get there. In 3 days I can drive from NJ to Cancun…

I agree that it seems really strange. This says it was a misunderstanding and that Castillo thought he had all day today to report and will probably play tomorrow.

He has a chance to play for the greatest sports game team in the galaxy, he doesn’t have room for misunderstandings. Especially since he’s pretty bad at sports game.

I think the very fact that you would suggest the Phils are merely the greatest sports game team in the galaxy and not the greatest sports game team in the universe reflects just how far the mighty have fallen now that Utley is out. It kinda makes me worried you might think there’s a team in some intergalactic galaxy that can outplay the Fightins. Now I truly understand what Bart Giamatti meant when he said that baseball is designed to break your heart.

It MAY break your heart, but it will no doubt shatter your star chart. It rhymes.

I think it will also spatter your bizarre work of art.
Really hoping they play a game that counts soon.

I think this would be a whole lot easier on us if they had just handed us the World Series trophy on January 15.

I’m thinking that others are looking at the injury list and thinking that maybe, just maybe, there is now a reason to play those games out. I’m thinking that the Phillies are thinking the same (check Charlie on his offense).

I think maybe this whole thing is just a ploy to lull other teams into a false sense of security because our shortstop, second baseman and third basemen are going to combine to hit like 15 home runs this year. If you think about it, it’s wily. I say let’s get Freddy Galvis back here and give him a chance to start in right.

Yeah. We’d have’em right where we wanted ‘em.
