At least, I’d rather have Ibanez or Francisco at either corner than Mayberry against a lefty. I see Mayberry as Francisco-but-not-as-good and I don’t think you want them both in the lineup at the same time if you’re trying to win the World Series. His actual numbers in the majors against lefties are 279/295/628 in 44 plate appearances. Everything’s great there except the tiny number of PA and the fact that he never, ever walks.

I think Ibanez would have to have a huge dropoff before you would rather see Mayberry out there. Given his age, I guess it’s possible. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen. I’m pretty interested in what Robb Quinlann does this spring — it sure seems like there are some opportunities for OF over the next couple of months.
