I would guess going down. He doesn’t seem like a great option to me, but the problem is there don’t look to be a whole of choices in the organization that are clearly better by a significant margin.

If there’s seven guys in the pen I think there’s only two spots left. One seems like it has to go to a lefty. I’d guess Bastardo, Escalona, Meyer, Zagurski in that order. I think the other spot is pretty wide open, but I would guess the Phils will give it to someone in the organization already (Kendrick, Worley, Herndon). Also think there’s a chance they keep Meyer up and go with three lefties.

One can only hope. Isn’t it beginning to look like the bullpen will be drawn largely from inside the system from this point on? I guess the biggest factor in this would be the payroll. Perhaps a Blanton trade brings some “bargain” arm for the ‘pen?

It sure seems like if the quality of the relievers stayed the same, fewer innings should equal fewer runs per inning. It seems like it should be mean more rest for the bullpen guys and a higher percentage of the relief innings thrown by your best relievers. The bullpen is an area where the Phils should be able to improve in 2011.

Geez. it seems nutty to me that the pen can be pitching so few innings and yet cannot hold back the scoring of runs. does it not make sense that there would be a direct correlation between the two, and not an inverse one?

More than most of the stats on this blog, these are disturbing. obviously, the pen simply must get better this year. given who is available, its a real poser.
