To the game itself...huge play by Victorino in the first. Completely different ball game if he doesn't make that catch. Even if the bats are asleep, nice to see the gloves are still working whenever Utley isn't throwing to first.

Nice to see the Phillies sweep the series, even though I think they have about 4 months off before the NLCS begins. Since the bats weren't exactly killing the ball, having all that time off before facing the Giants doesn't really excite me. Although, Eric you do make a good point about the offense being better than anybody else at this point.

Phils over the Giants in five.

I'm definitely rooting for the Braves tonight, too. I'm not sure it's going to be enough.

I'm on the worry-about-Howard-and-Werth bandwagon. Utley, too, home run or not. I've kind of written Polanco and Rollins off as injured (although I don't think they both need to be hitting in the top six spots in the order).

I don't actually think Halladay will throw a shutout his next time out, but his chances do seem better than normal.

As worried as we are about the offense, they've still scored more runs than any of the other NL teams in the playoffs. The Giants and Braves have combined to score 15 runs in the three games of their series and the Phils are at 13. Six unearned runs helps, I spose. They've scored more runs than the Rays or the Twinkies and the Rays have played one more game than they have. Texas has scored more runs than the Phils but played more games -- the Rangers have scored four runs per game and the Phils 4.33. The Yankees are the only playoff team of the eight that has scored more runs per game than the Phils.

Well yeah, great pitching is great, but if we're just talking earned runs here (the only sort we should count on), the Phils look a lot more vulnerable. Halladay and Hamels probably won't throw a shutout/no-hitter every time out (though that would make things considerably easier).

Probably won't. As Cholly so adroitly put it, things that won't happen still CAN happen.

I love Charlie Manuel.

Its kind of funny that we are worried about the only Phillies team to ever sweep a series. Especially since we swept a fearsome offensive machine in the process. My guess is that the Reds were the not-ready-for-prime-time-players. Next year, though, they will be ready. Hang on to your hats then.

Meanwhile, the pitching was amazing. If Oswalt has chipped the rust off that he claims was his problem, any team we face will be in a real fix. The guy who has blown me away is Hamels. He has grown up. I confess that I thought he was never going to do that. I love being wrong like this. He has been superb. This is me eating crow.

BUT, where the heck are the bats? If Polanco is having trouble, I kind of get it; he is hurt. Werth seems to be back in his mystery mode; where are the short stroking blasts to the alleys? And Ryan Howard has now racked up two consecutive playoffs (last year's Series) where he could have been replaced with a rusty gate. I like the Mr. September personna. We could use a Mr. October now.

Yeah, I don't know quite what the Phillies are going to do. I think you're right that Blanton starts game four if there are no rainouts or injuries, unless the Phils are down three games to none. Hopefully that won't be an issue.

I'd be really surprised to see Worley added to the roster. Kendrick seems like the guy if they add a pitcher, but I don't feel like it's 100% they're going to add one. I'd rather they kept Brown than Dobbs as well. I don't think they will.

I'm guessing they keep it just like it is. I wouldn't mind seeing them giving the Dobbs or Brown spot to another pitcher, but I don't think they will. They have to be worried about the left side of the infield with Rollins and Polanco both doing nothing offensively, but I don't see a whole lot of options for them. Hopefully the rest will do both of them some good.
