I think the Phils would be nervous with just Valdez to back up Rollins and Polanco, too. I don’t see many choices other than Dobbs. I still think the Phils should leave him off the roster, but I don’t feel confident they will.

Coste was last heard from when the Nats released him in June.

I’d be nervous with just Valdez covering Polly’s elbow and Jimmy’s hammy. Not that I want Dobbs on the roster, but that there’s a greater than 1% chance you’ll need to sub out both of those guys. Otherwise we’ll get Oswalt in Left, Ibanez on First, Howard on 2nd, and Utley at 3rd..

Totally with you that the Phils don’t need Dobbs on the post-season roster (we don’t even have to say if-they-make-it anymore). .219 over the past two years plus can’t play defense at all is compelling to me. I think it’s important that they feel like Rollins is okay in the next couple of days so Valdez can backup both short and third. Polanco’s elbow has to scare them a lot.

Opponents hitting .248 against the Phils with Ruiz catching. .277 with Schneider catching. .240 with Sardinha catching and .269 with Hoover catching. .255 overall.

Chooch for MVP. Check out the opposing team’s batting average when he is catching vs. when anyone else is catching. And gee, you don’t like Dobbs at third?

Yikes. I took a look in IE6 and I see what you mean. Not so good. Will work on that.

Great to see the Phils get some rest over the next few days. It will be really interesting to see what Rollins does. Let’s hope it’s not on-base .303 without power.

@Phils: Awesome! 5 games in 6 days to rest up, get healthy, get some bench players some playing time, and so forth. I’d be shocked if Oswalt goes longer than 5 tonight. Unless he’s at 60 pitches.

@Flow: I like the new site.. but something about it is off in IE6. Links aren’t clickable, except the buttons at the very top. Makes it hard for corporate drones stuck on 10-year-old technology to do anything other than browse the front page.

It was great to see Halladay pitch so well. I was getting a little worried about him. Werth is a monster. Halladay has to be the team MVP, but Werth is second in my mind.

I’m still worried about Polanco, even after three hits and some great defense last night. His elbow is no doubt causing big problems, but if he’s really going to be a singles hitter who never walks that’s a problem for the Phillies (even if he hits .300). They don’t have a lot of other options at third.
