This article from the Phillies’ web site suggests the Phils are interested in Mike Cameron. I find it hard to believe the Phillies would be looking to move Victorino out of center. Whether you believe the Phillies’ interest in Cameron is genuine or an effort to get Jenkins to make a decision, it seems likely that getting Jenkins would be the first choice for the Phils and getting Cameron a distant second at best.
This article from December 6 suggests the Phillies had told Cameron’s agent that they weren’t interested in Cameron. Rowand has left the Phillies since, but you have to believe that the Phillies were expecting that.
This quotes from a book excerpt that suggests Cameron, who will miss the first 25 games of the 2008 season after testing positive for a banned substance, told the author he has played drunk.
The article linked in the top paragraph above says the Phillies are expected to watch Kris Benson pitch today in Arizona.
This says the Phillies are considering Sidney Ponson. Hopefully not for long. It also suggests Ponson might sign a minor league contract.

Ho… ho… ho… just say no, no, no to all three of these. I could stomach Ponson playing some AAAA ball to fill some seats, but I don’t want to see him with the big club. Cameron, thanks anyway. Lastly, when was the last time that Benson was any good for any amount of time? Thinks smell a bit desperate.

I second the no thanks notion for Benson or Ponson. Neither one has really proven any worth whatsoever. However, I wouldn’t be opposed to Mike Cameron, even given his recent troubles. Geoff Jenkins makes a lot of sense at this point.

I don’t think the Phils are going to get Benson, but I think it would help them out if they did. 30 starts for Eaton with a 6.29 ERA last season is just absurd — Benson wouldn’t be great, either, but the Phils need enough organizational depth at starting pitcher to prevent another disaster season from Eaton from happening. I think the Phils are going to work hard to find someone else who can start and the starting pitching that’s available now isn’t real exciting.

I like Cameron except for the suspension and the drunk comment. If we could get him cheap I’d be fine with it.
