The Japanese might just stop inviting Ryan Howard to come over. The MLB All-Stars beat the NPB All-Stars for the third time in three games early this morning, winning Game 3 of the five-game set 11-4. Howard was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI. He's hitting .700 in the three games with three home runs and six RBI. Chase Utley played second and went 1-for-3 with a walk. Utley hit second against righty Hiroyuki Kobayashi after hitting eighth against lefty starter Tetsuya Utsumi in Game 1. Utley is 2-for-6 in the series. Eric Bedard got the start for the MLB team and allowed three runs on two hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings.
No game tomorrow. Game 4 is at 4 AM ET on Tuesday.
In the Arizona Fall League the Saguaros improved to 10-12 with a 3-2 win over the Grand Canyon Rafters. Gavin Floyd's magic spell was broken. After consecutive outings in which he was nearly perfect he allowed two runs on five hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out four and lowered his ERA to 5.87.
Some in Houston yearn for Randy Wolf.
Anyone want to pay $15 million a year for a guy who won't pinch hit? Anyone? Hello? The Giants and Bonds have some stuff to work out. Maybe they can get those foam things where you bonk each other on the head during a Festivus-like airing of grievances. I'm here to help.
Article here says an offer of Kris Benson plus an unnamed reliever wasn't enough for Baltimore to get Gary Sheffield from the Yankees. The Phillies wouldn't really give up players of that caliber plus pay Sheffield's salary next season just to put Sheffield in right instead of Burrell in left, would they? I don't think they would.
