The Phillies have announced an opening day roster that includes 24 active players and Freddy Garcia, Jon Lieber, Scott Mathieson, Ryan Budde and Chris Coste on the DL. This article from the Phillies' web site mentions Ron Calloway and Joe Bisenius as possibilities from within the organization for the final spot.
The Red Sox beat the
Phillies 7-5 yesterday.
Abraham Nunez hit an RBI-double in the second to get the Phils on the board.
Pat Burrell hit his fifth spring home run in the bottom of the third, a
two-run shot.
Greg Dobbs hit a solo home run in the seventh, his fifth of the spring.
Carlos Ruiz hit his second of the spring, also a solo shot, in the bottom of
the ninth.
Adam Eaton got the start for the Phils and got bombed again. He went
just three innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks. His
spring ERA is 7.91. Boston scored against him in each of the first
three innings. They got a solo home run from Ortiz in the first, a
two-run single from Dustin Pedroia in the second and scored three times in
the third on run-scoring singles from Mike Lowell and Coco Crisp.
Julio De La Cruz pitched a scoreless fourth, allowing a hit and a walk.
Alfonseca followed in the fifth and allowed a run on a solo homer by Jason
Varitek. His ERA this spring is 5.79.
Matt Smith set the Red Sox down 1-2-3 in the sixth and Geoff Geary did the
same in the seventh. Kyle Kendrick pitched the last two innings and
did not allow a runner.
In 13 starts, Hamels,
Eaton and Garcia combined to allow 42 earned runs in their 48 2/3 innings
this spring (7.77 ERA). Hamels led the trio with a 6.10 ERA.
The Phillies open their season on Monday afternoon against the Braves.
